How a visit becomes a hit
Each visit through a partner link is checked and recorded as a hit, counted or not, with the reason when not.
The checks
When a visit arrives, HitCTRL checks it in a few milliseconds:
- Is the partner known and enabled, with traffic allowed?
- Is the landing page known and not disabled?
- Is the offer active, and may this partner promote it?
- Is it a person, not a bot or a script?
- Is it within the rate limits (one visitor or one partner sending far too many hits at once)?
Counted or not counted
Every visit is kept, counted or not. Performance › Hits shows the ones not counted with their reason:
| Reason | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Unknown partner | The link's Partner ID does not exist. |
| Unknown landing page | The link's landing page does not exist. |
| Partner not enabled | The partner's account or traffic is off. |
| Landing page disabled | The page is set to Disabled. |
| No access to the offer | A private offer the partner is not allowed on, or they are blocked. |
| Offer not active | The offer is a draft or inactive. |
| Bot or script | The visit came from a known bot or a script. |
| Too many hits from one visitor / for the partner | A rate limit was passed. |
What a hit remembers
The partner, offer, landing page, time, country, region, city, device, operating system, browser, where the visitor came from, and the partner's sub IDs.
